Minutes of Meeting
Coppell Historical Society
January 14, 2006
Present: David and Jean Murph, Ruby Nell Wilson, Pete Wilson, Joy and Delbert Onstott, Lindy Thomas, Pat Lambert, Barbara Lee.
Minutes of meeting on December 10, 2005 were approved.
Treasurer’s report was given by Barbara Lee. The balance in our account is $1,658.70
Item #1 Photograph Reproduction bids – Pete informed us that Bob Freeman would be too busy to scan the photos. He also stressed that we will need good quality original photos (we have some that are copies). It was estimated that each photo could take 10 to 20 minutes to process. Pete suggested that we pay a student intern to do the scanning in his office. Jean also volunteered her office for scanning. Jean Murph moved that we pay the student $7.50 per hour for up to 10 hours; motion was seconded by Pat Lambert and approved.
Item #2 Interview/Research Coppell Families – Jean had prepared a worksheet with names and instructions, and all the volunteers chose names from the list.
Item #3 Windmill Marker Dedication – Jean had a photo of the marker to show the group and informed us that the cost was $402. A committee (Joy and Deb Onstott, Jean, Barbara) was selected to decide on the stone to mount the marker on. The City will purchase and install the stone. We will have an informal dedication ceremony involving City officials, Dale McCallum (J. C. Thweatt’s nephew), Historical Society members, and Old Town business owners sometime in mid March, possibly on the 7th or 21st. The late afternoon, around 4pm would be most convenient for everyone. Jean will contact Mr. McCallum.
Item #4 Meeting with Jim Witt on storage solutions – The committee will decide on a date to meet before the next meeting.
Item #5 Officers – The officers roles were discussed.
Vice President – do bookings of meetings. It was suggested that we try to get a standing reservation.
Recording Secretary – record minutes and send out to members.
Corresponding Secretary – send meeting notices and other correspondence.
Historian/Photographer – not an official office but appointed by the President. The title was changed to Historian and the responsibility will be to do the scrapbook. She will need to get the items that Jean Heath had.
A motion was made by Pat Lambert and seconded by Jean Murph to accept the slate of officers and was approved.
Membership drive – we will get a letter out, similar to last year’s, to determine interest in membership. Barbara will collect the mail from the P.O. box and pass any checks to Jean and also give new information for spreadsheet to Lindy.
Jean suggested that we add the names to the mailing list of the people who came to the marker dedication ceremony to increase membership.
Jean Murph asked the group if we still wanted to do an archaeological dig in the spring at Grapevine Springs Park. Pat and Joy volunteered to work with Jean to make this happen. A motion to let Jean organize this activity was made by Pete and seconded and passed.
Barbara Lee stated that as new president, her primary goal would be to increase membership.
Our next meeting will be on February 11, 2006.
