Minutes of Meeting

Coppell Historical Society

February 9, 2002

This note is a quick update regarding our last meeting and our schedule for the Spring.

Because of Spring Break and Easter, we decided not to meet in March and will convene our regular April meeting on the second Saturday, April 13, 10:15 a.m., at the library. You will receive a notice prior to the meeting.

At the meeting, I gave a report after attending a meeting about the Old Red Courthouse museum project, in which we have been asked to participate and ensure that Coppell is represented in Dallas County history.

In regard to that, we were informed that important Coppell records in the downtown Records Building may soon be moved to an inaccessible storage building. At the meeting, a number of members volunteered to go down and research one day in early March. If you can consider going, please call Jean Murph at 972-462-8192 and leave word. If you have already volunteered, I will call you, but try to save a day the first week of March. We will decide on the time and date, and we'll make a fun day out of it!

A committee was appointed to come up with a policy on reproduction of photographs. We have received a major request and need to have a procedure in place. If you wish to serve on this committee, please call me.

We are working on a brochure that will contain our condensed history of Coppell, with photographs, and we hope to have a final draft for your review at our next meeting. We receive many requests for historical data. Our speaker's bureau is now ready to go!

Finally, do all that you can to contact anyone who might have historic Coppell photographs or memorabilia. We would like to showcase items someday soon, even at Old Red when it is our turn. Memorabilia may be written matter or documents; and items, furnishings and equipment that reflect how our founders lived, farmed, cooked, dressed, worshipped, were educated, entertained.  Items can be "on loan" or donated to the Society. It would be wonderful if we could have at least one item representing each founding or long-time family.

We hope to see you in April.

Jean Murph
