Minutes of Meeting
Coppell Historical Society
April 3, 2004
The Coppell Historical Society met Saturday, A p r i l 3, 2004 at the W. T. Cozby Public Library . The meeting was called to order at 10:25 a.m. by President Jean Murph. Those in attendance were: Doris Alexander, Jeanne Heath, Jean and David Murph, Deb and Joy Onstott , Mark Robison, Lyndy Thomas, Pete and Ruby N e l l Wilson.
A check in sum of $100.00 was received from Mrs. George Chadick in memory of her husband, George Chadick.
It was announced that the Thweatt windmill will be put on the Wilson property at the corner of Bethel and Coppell Roads. No date has been set for the old Red Fund meeting.
A meeting was planned to meet with Jim Witt regarding Grants. We hope to get a copy of the various Grants available . For Fund Raising , the idea was suggested we sell bricks to be put in a wall at Grapevine Springs Park. If approved, the size, cost, laying, etc. will be decided later.
The May 8th meeting with Mayor Doug Stover on Old Coppell Master Plan was discussed. The members are t be there at 10:00 a.m. And the public at 10:30 a.m. at the Recreational Center. Breakfast type food is to be brought by Lyndy Thomas, Joanne Smith, Joy O n s t o t t, Ralph Goin and Pete Wilson. Coffee and water by Ralph Goin. Paper products and Decor by Doris Alexander, Jean and David Murph. A tentative lunch at Babe's in Roanoke for Peggy Riddle was planned. If follows through, a gift will be given Peggy a t the meeting. Joy Onstot t offered to give an old round trough to be put in the Old Town section.
Paul Lorraine reported to Jean t h a t he could not do the "Dig" in May. A check with the Archaeological Group as to when they could be here is to be made. A vote was taken to do it in the Fall . Teachers will be notified later as to the date.
It was suggested we have the dedication of the Historical Marker be October 14, 2004 unless it is not ready by that date. This is the second Thursday of the month when the Dallas Historical Commission meets and they would be able to attend. No decision was made on who would pay for the lunch if it was served.
Election of officers was brought up. Lyndy moved and Joy seconded we nominate in
October, elect in November and take office in January. Motion passed. The following
Jean Murph asked if anyone was interested in applying for the Citizen's Summit meeting that the town is sponsoring.
In regard to the outcome of the Preservation Conference, Jean Murph asked if we'd be interested in meeting with Jim Witt regarding the History of Coppell . Maybe it could be tied in with the Economic Development Commission. We could have an official City Historical Preservation in Coppell . Lyndy was to check into what other cities have done. The following committee was appointed to look into the Old Downtown Master Plan: Joy Onstott , Jean Murph, Lyndy Thomas and Mark Robison.
Meeting was adjourned at 12 Noon.
