Coppell Historical Society

March 10, 2012

This meeting was comprised of a special program, open to the public, devoted to information about the upcoming Witness Tree Project and held at the W. T. Cozby Library in Coppell.

Don Carter introduced the guests, who were Micah Pace, Regional Urban Forester of the Texas Forest Service, and John Elias, Park Operations Manager for the City of Coppell.

Approximately fifty persons were in attendance.

Barbara Lee, president, called the meeting to order at 1:09 p.m.

Mr. Pace presented information regarding the Champion Tree Programs, insisting of (1) Texas Big Tree Registry, (2) National Registry of Big Trees, and (3) DFW Big Tree Registry.  He explained how trees can be measured and identified as Witness Trees.

On April 21, our Society will sponsor Coppell’s first Witness Tree Project, during which volunteers will attempt to identify trees that, because of their age and/or size, are important to our town.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:32 p.m.
