Coppell Historical Society
May 12, 2012
Members Present: Barbara Lee, Jackie Parrish, Kevin Mote, Barbara Webster, Pat Quinlan, Jean Murph, Dave Murph, Pat Lambert, Don Carter, Pete Wilson
The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Moved by Jean Murph. Seconded by Barbara Webster.
The Treasurer’s report by Dave Murph showed expenses since our last meeting of $1,799.21 from the city grant fund and $39.00 from the general fund. Income was $10,000 for the city grant fund (from the city) and $140.00 for the general fund from dues.
Pete Wilson asked to be reimbursed for approved expenses (ancestry.com historical research, postage, mailing materials) of $229.11. Request was approved. Moved by Jean Murph. Seconded by Pat Quinlan.
Barbara Lee reported that Pat Quinlan has accepted chairmanship of the Acquisitions Committee.
Pete Wilson presented the slate of officers for nomination, as follows:
President – Don Carter
Secretary – Pete Wilson
Treasurer – Dave Murph
There being no nominations from the floor, the slate was accepted by acclamation. Moved by Jean Murph.. Seconded by Pat Lambert.
Barbara Lee and Pat Quinlan were presented with gifts to thank them for their past service.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:57 a.m.
A pizza lunch followed the meeting, at which members discussed past accomplishments and idea for future projects.

Master plan for use, administration and maintenance

Jean Murph presented a summary of accomplishments at the recent Witness Tree Search.
Kevin Mote presented information he has gathered about updating the Society’s website. (The membership approved this update. See previous section of minutes.)
Pete Wilson proposed a future forum/lecture for the public that will present information about George Coppell. Noble Fortson has agreed to participate also.
Jean Murph proposed a future community picnic on the Trinity River to emphasize the importance of the river to Coppell and nearby towns.
Pete Wilson mentioned that the Society might promote the creation of note cards or other “souvenirs” that could be sold eventually at Heritage Park.
Other subjects discussed:
Possibly changing the regular Saturday meeting time of the Society to 1:00 p.m. to avoid conflicts with the Farmers Market and early Saturday family activities.
Recognized the recent article on the Society in the Dallas News NeighborsGo section.
Continuing the Society’s participation in Old Town Days.
