Minutes of Meeting

Coppell Historical Society

January 8, 2011

Present:  Barbara Webster, Jackie Parrish, Kevin Mote, Nan Botzau, Delbert Onstott, Joy Onstott, Pat Lambert, Martha-Allison Blewer, Barbara Lee, Tom Botzau, Pete Wilson

President Barbara Lee called the meeting to order at 10:32 a.m.

Minutes of the last meeting were approved.  Moved by Pat Lambert.  Seconded by Nan Botzau.

In the absence of Dave Murph, there was no formal treasurer’s report, but Barbara Lee reported that there was no financial activity last month.

Barbara Lee reported that we have received the $5,000 grant from the city.  She reminded us that these funds are to be kept separate from our other funds, and she must file a quarterly report.  We will be able to separate our accounts just by bookkeeping; we will not have to open a separate bank account.

Kevin Mote reported that the city has officially notified him and others who have been looking after the cemeteries that it will be taking on the maintenance of all four historic cemeteries almost immediately.

Annual dues are now due, and a number of members paid their dues at the meeting.

Pete Wilson presented a completed application for state designation of Parrish Cemetery.  Information provided by the Parrish family was sufficient to make this particular application easier than applications for the other three cemeteries.  The required photos and additional information was gathered by Wilson.  The application will be presented next Thursday to the Dallas County Historical Commission and then sent to the state.  The expenditure of $25 for the application fee was approved.  Moved by Nan Botzau.  Seconded by Kevin Mote.  It was agreed that the fee will be paid out of the recent grant received from the city.

In the absence of Pat Quinlan, Pete Wilson reported on the progress of construction at the Kirkland House.  All of the walls of all the rooms except the kitchen have been prepared for wallpaper, and at least one of the ceilings has been prepared.  The kitchen is the main area that has had almost no work.  The front “sidewalk” is almost completed.  The restroom building and handicapped ramps have had primer paint applied.  The electrical supply to the restroom building has been installed.

The next meeting will be February 12.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:31 a.m.
